Pursuing Excellence

Malisone Chathapanya began golfing at the age of five when she joined First Tee in Fort Worth, TX.  She started competing in various amateur events and eventually join the team at Saginaw High School. During high school she won her district as both a sophomore and senior individually and led her team to a district championship her senior year.  She would also become an individual regional champion and set a school record low of 69 on 18 holes before graduating.

These achievements would earn her a spot on the roster of the Texas Wesleyan University golf team where she would prove to be a tremendous asset.  During her time at Texas Wesleyan, Malisone was named WGCA NAIA All-American three times and competed at NAIA Nationals.  Academically she completed an MBA in just three years. After graduation, Malisone, contemplated turning professional before a new opportunity presented itself.  The coach at the University of North Texas, an NCAA Division I program near her home town, recruited her to play out her final year of eligibility. Some talented seniors had graduated and the team needed to fill the void left by the upper classmen.  Malisone decided to take advantage of the opportunity and play golf at the Division I level where she could  hone her skills for another year and joined the team for the 2024/2025 season. Her long-term goal remains to pursue a professional golf career.  As of September 2024 her personal best is a low score of 63 on eighteen holes.

Malisone’s parents, Bo and Mandy Chanthapanya, were born in Laos and reside in the Fort Worth, TX, area where their two children were born and raised.  Malisone’s brother Kaisone is also a college golfer at Texas Wesleyan University.
